Students who are linguistically gifted are word smart. They enjoy speaking, writing, and manipulating language. Chances are, these children enjoy writing poems and telling stories. Sousa identifies four possible characteristics of a child who displays gifts in language arts: heightened awareness of language, strong communication skills, strong leadership, and exceptional talent in reasoning and arguing (Sousa, 114).
Below you will find various strategies that can be used in the classroom to help meet the needs and abilities of linguistically gifted students. Sousa, D. A. (2003) How the Gifted Brain Learns. Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press.
